How UNDP Promoted Gender Parity, Diversity & Inclusion Through Interactive eLearning

The Challenge

United Nations Development Program (UNDP) wanted to create inspiring eLearning modules on “PROMOTING GENDER PARITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVENESS IN THE UN WORKPLACE”. They were interested in vendor who could utilize the latest industry tools to add meaning and value to these self-paced online courses using techniques like gamification, interactivity, animations and audio voice-overs in specific languages.

The Solution

Zillion eLearning provided the right solution to United Nations Development Program (UNDP) based on their requirements and needs. The modules for “Promoting Gender Parity, Diversity and Inclusiveness in the UN Workplace” were made using one of the latest industry tools i.e., Articulate Storyline. Gamification along with points-system was included in the module to challenge the users and increase their interest and motivation to learn. A state-of-the-art, user friendly and self-explanatory interface was developed. “Diversity & Inclusiveness” course consisted of 4 modules while, “Women and Leadership” course consisted of 3 modules. The average duration of modules was 30-40 minutes.

The modules are self-paced, interactive and engaging. We kept in mind UNDP and UNSSC branding guidelines to develop the interface and voiceover. In both the modules, separate characters belonging to different cultures and countries are designed to keep the overall eLearning in-line with the objectives. The business cases are embedded in both the modules and users are challenged in between and at the end with Q&A sessions. The users are instructed at the start to try to get the maximum score out of 100 to challenge their knowledge. The module was developed keeping the overall objectives in mind.

The Results

As these trainings were launched, UNDP saw an increase in the level of understanding and participation of the employees. The employees were more motivated and they were very clear on the objectives of Diversity and Inclusiveness as well as Gender Parity. The employees used their knowledge from this training in their professional roles to achieve the desired results of UNDP in their respective regions. Latest results show that eLearning is much more effective than traditional learning techniques because it is more engaging, motivating and interactive than the latter.

The number of registrations in both the courses increased and the participants gave encouraging feedback to UNDP about the significance and importance of the eLearning courses. The feedback survey also showed that participants did not find any technical glitches or errors in any of the modules of the courses. Participants seemed to enjoy the challenging quizzes and points-system.
